great. It is invigorating to share knowledge with
the next generation of home inspectors.
The quarterly meeting agenda now includes a
time slot for round-table discussions. It offers all
attendees an opportunity to exchange informa-
tion, by sharing opinions and past experiences
with others.
The next quarterly meeting is scheduled for
September 22nd in Red Deer I hope everybody
has a busy season and enjoys the summer.

SASKATCHEWAN NEWS
Statistics from our provincial real
estate associations are showing continued
strong home sales for both new and pre-owned
properties. It was a mild winter with minimal
slow-down of new construction, which is evi-
dent throughout the province. A decrease in
pre-owned inventory at the beginning of the
year has kept the market firm with first time and
upgrading buyers and a steady out-of-province
influx of people looking to purchase property.
Our annual conference was held in Saskatoon,
March 16th and 17th. Attendance was good,
with both existing CAHPI members and new
members in attendance. Discussions and pre-
sentation topics by informative speakers during
the education day included geothermal, radon
and water testing, HRVs and indoor air qual-
ity. Thank you to Randy Bender, Dave Andrew
and Scott Brown for organizing this great
conference.
Monthly meetings have been ongoing, with
Skype technology being utilized periodically.
Membership is keen on the meeting format with
agenda and business decisions being made
without having to endure long travel hours. Our
committees are working together to address
continuing education and shortfalls of MRC
credits with some members: standards of prac-
tice and risk management, website upgrades,
report verifications and exams for RHI designa-
tion of some members, public recognition and
overall reputation of CAHPI as an accredited
body. We are going ahead with Yellow Page ads
to promote our provincial and national organiza-
tion. Thank you to Ben Wanner for setting up our
CAHPI page on Facebook, and working on the
national tech library.
The warmer weather usually heats up the real
estate market. This has certainly been the case
for a number of years. Our members will take
that in full stride.

MANITOBA NEWS
The real estate market continues
to be quite active in Manitoba, most notably in
Winnipeg. In some areas of the city bidding wars
are causing the sale price of the home to go
well beyond the asking price. This is also caus-
ing buyers to decline property disclosure state-
ments and home inspections. Both of these ele-
ments are included on the offer to purchase, but
may be declined by the buyer.
There has been no further dialogue on govern-
ment licensing of home inspectors in Manitoba.
CAHPI-MB has now implemented a 12-point
system for Candidates.
To help First Nations people in Manitoba own
their homes, a partnership between the Assem-
bly of Manitoba Chiefs and the Manitoba Real
Estate Association formed the Manitoba Tipi
Mitawa Program. This program, with specific
guidelines, provides financial aid towards home
ownership, but does so with some guidelines.
This is a program aimed solely at urban centres.
The participants in this program must have a
home inspection done and the inspector must
be a CAHPI member. CAHPI-MB members will
provide a discounted rate to the participants in
this program.
