T H E C A N A D I A N
HOME INSPECTOR
BRITISH COLUMBIA NEWS
It is indeed a pleasure to introduce
myself as the recently elected Presi-
dent of CAHPI(BC) in the great Province of Brit-
ish Columbia. It was a close call between myself
and two of my well-respected peers, so I have
a lot of work to do to form a ruling consensus.
We have learned in the past two years that it’s
all about the membership and expressing their
will. This means knowing their wishes and
respecting their concerns. This Board is a com-
bination of senior board members, most recent
members and young idealists. It is an exciting
mix of old and new, sage and novice but with
each bringing well-rounded skill sets in several
areas. I predict I will be run off my feet keeping
up with the novel ideas and creative approaches
for which BC is well known.
Our challenge remains being relevant and bol-
stered in an industry that is now designed by
legislation to reach for the lowest rung of com-
petency, then paints us with the same brush.
Licensing accepts four different versions of
competency and clearly is not impressed with
the CAHPI(BC) brand as it exceeds minimum
standards in a number of areas.
My goal is to bolster the Board and rally the
troops to think in a grand fashion and deliver
the impossible. But first, we are engaging in
basic governance and team building. Already, I
feel the warmth of family and the challenge of
forging a common goal. Watch for news ahead.
Practically speaking, we await the latest version
of the CAHPI National Standards of Practice that
we hope can be adopted during our September
2012 meeting. The National Code of Ethics is
expected to pass through as is at that same
meeting.
Our reconstituted website is fully functional now
and includes a randomizing function to ensure
that each of our members have an equal shot
at getting leads through the website. One of
our Board members reports getting somewhere
between $4500 and $5000 a year from the
website generated leads. Quite a payback on
membership without counting the benefits of
education, support, and our own best of breed
insurance!
In closing, I look forward to learning more about
the past year’s Board efforts from Past Presi-
dent Tony Kazoleas after his recovery from a
recent illness.

The Friday night banquet was hosted by enter-

and words of inspiration. No one left untouched
by his performance.
A new education program was created for Stu-
dent members, and it includes a hands-on ele-
ment. Part one consists of a classroom session,
and part two involves an onsite home inspec-
